Week 3 Weigh In

Weight as of 4/26: 155.2

I’m not happy with this number but given the circumstances of the last couple of weeks things could have been a lot worse.

Food

I have been eating without care or regard for calories and nutrition. Every morning after breakfast I have written down a menu plan for the day. I think this is a good practice that I will continue to do,I just need to follow through with the menu. I did this all week but around lunch time the stress of everything going on would come to the forefront of my mind and I would give up and give in to all the food temptations at my office and home.

Workout

Working out has been almost non-existent. While in California I went on a few walks. I packed work out clothes and my running shoes with good intentions but the weekend ended up being a lot more emotionally exhausting then I expected. This past Easter weekend I went golfing on a 9 hole course. We walked the course and I actually woke up the next day with a sore mid section! I do not foresee golfing becoming a serious hobby for me but it is a good way to enjoy the sunshine and be active. I think I will be going several times this summer.

The Next Week

Today starts my 4 day vacation. I will be hanging out at home for the day then tomorrow, after a dreaded dentist appointment, I will be heading to Seattle! I have had a layover at SeaTac almost every time I’ve flown for the past 3 years and have even ventured out to a hotel next to the airport once but have never had a chance to explore the city. Now that I only live 5 hrs. away I hope this will be the first of many trips to the city.

So what does this mean for the diet? I am hoping to break even next weigh in. To save money and calories I will bring food for breakfast, lunch and snacks from home. We have not booked a hotel yet but I hope to find one with a workout facility and that is within walking distance to many of the major attractions.

I have been in California 13 days this month. This made me realize how much I truly miss the place. When I first moved I never thought I would miss it so much.

Unfortunately, I did not do good eating or exercise wise on either trips. Since I usually do not get to venture to So Cal very often the first trip I was gun ho about eating at restaurants I have not been to and about going out – re: drinking – with friends. I anticipated this and when I got back I went right back to eating very well. The second trip was unexpected and ended up being very emotionally exhausting, which manifested itself into lots of emotional eating. This did not get better once I got home. All I have been doing this week is work, sleep, and eat. No fun. Both trips I packed my running shoes and workout clothes and ended up using them once. Which I guess is better than nothing.

Next week I will be in Seattle and will work on doing better.

Weekly Weigh Ins

I plan to keep track of my weight loss by weighing myself once a week. In the past I would weigh myself almost everyday and then beat myself up if I went up a fraction of a pound or if I didn’t go down a fraction of a pound. In short it was not healthy and now I’m trying to do the healthier thing.

The Goals

Right now my goal weight is 130. If I lose 2 pounds a week which is ideal then I should be able to achieve this by the end of June.

In addition to a weight goal I other goals that have nothing to with the number on the dreaded scale. First would be to not throw away an entire day just because I eat one bad thing. I have the ultimate all or nothing attitude. If I know I’m going out to drinks with friends that evening, then I automatically eat everything and anything in front of me the entire day. I need to learn not to ruin my whole day over one meal or one candy bar, etc.

I also want to workout at least 5 days a week. I have a problem with consistency. This is a habit I need to break. My biggest downfall as of late has been another all or nothing fail. I want to run. I run 3 times a week for a few weeks, my feet starting having pain that disable me from walking and I cease working out altogether. This is no good. 

The Plan

I plan to stay between 1200 and 1400 calories a day. Closer to 1200 on days when I do not exercise and  vice versa. Of course there will be occasions where healthy eating will be difficult to maintain. Take this month for example. The first week I had to travel for work to Southern California (where all my family and friends are) This week I have to make a last minute trip to So Cal and the last week of April I have a planned trip to Seattle to use up the last of my vacation before it expires! I absolutely cannot waste vacation! So obviously there will be ups and downs but I will try my best to eat in moderation when I cannot resist all the good food and going out!

Sleeping in feels great

Normally I go into work at 7:00 am. I am fortunate enough to only live a short 5 – 10 minute drive away from my office but sometimes I still get jealous when my roommate doesn’t even walk in the door to the apartment (she usually stays at the bf’s) until almost 8 am. And still has 30 minutes to get ready for work. I.am.so.jealous. Well today I had a physical therapist appointment at 7:45, so instead of going into work for half an hour, I sleep in. And it felt great. Another perk of having more time in the morning, making breakfast! I decided to make oatmeal this morning. I was even able to enjoy the morning news while eating! I typically eat breakfast at my desk. This Friday morning was the best!

In my awesome New York City soup bowl:

1/3 oatmeal

1/3 0% milk

1/3 water

1 tbsp Justin’s Maple Almond Butter

And not measured Maple Pecan Granola on top. I made the granola at home from this recipe from Kath Eats. I added slightly more pecans to mine and sliced almonds as well. I really like my granola nutty.

Workout

I though about what workout I would do all day. I wanted to get outside because we had another gorgeous day here but felt exhausted by the time I got home. So I ended up getting comfy on the couch instead. I have a lot of DVRed shows to catch up on! After eating dinner I decided to do one of the workout DVDs I have and found this one first

There is a warm up and 3 10 minute routines on this DVD. I did the warm up and first two routines. This was a tiring workout! And by the second routine it started to get hard to follow along with Kim. As I said before I was tired going into this so when I couldn’t get the steps right I decided it was time to quit.

I’m happy with myself for doing something even though I really did not want to!

Lazy can be healthy

And to prove that my daily meals are boring, I had this deliciousness again

I will explain how I put this bad boy together, and you will see why lazy can still be healthy. Before I gave it some thought I never thought that possible. In my mind healthy was always more work, more money, more clean up, just more everything and it was never worth it. Well I am happy to say that this meal took minimal effort and clean up and was fairly inexpensive!

Step 1: Buy a pre-made rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. Peel off 2 0z of chicken and put chicken in the fridge so that I can eat the same thing for the rest of the week.

Step 2: Open can of black beans and weigh out half a serving (about 55 grams), rinse, and dry off. Put the remaining can in a Tupperware container and again save for later.

Step 3: Cut an avocado in fourths and cube the 1/4. Save the remaining in the fridge.

Step 4: Now put a couple handfuls of lettuce on a plate (I used 50/50 spring mix), add the above ingredients and add as much salsa as your little heart desires.

Now you have lunch or dinner for the entire workweek! Awesome I know. The Diet Dr. Pepper will not be enjoyed all week because I drank my last one today. These were purchased on impulse on day when I was bored and wondering around the grocery store so you will probably not see them in awhile, although Diet Dr. Pepper is the best Smile

Workout

Run/Walk – 45 min

When I woke up this morning and looked out the window there was snow on the ground. That’s right snow in mid-April. I am so tired of it and am more than ready for warm weather and shorts! (Although it might be better for me to lose some weight before showing off the legs) Anyways, by the time I left work it was sunny and a brisk 40 degrees so I went outside to get some vitamin D.

I love sun!

While the sun felt good, the run/walking did not. I only did one minute running one minute walking but not only was I out of breath but my feet just were not having it. In the past I have had to stop running because of tendon issues in the my feet and it appears I am having the same issues again. blah.

On a good note, I bought a bike! And plan to be riding it (I have to put it together, by myself! ahh!!) next time its nice out.

I moved to Juneau for a boy and stayed there for just under two years. The relationship turned extremely unhealthy and I broke up with said boy. In all of a week I packed up my entire apartment, quit my job (ok it was a two week span b/c I gave a proper two week notice) and decided it was time to move, to Seattle. Well my employer had different plans for me and I ended up transferring to this little town

Now I’m single, working full time, and am trying to (finally) finish school. And, as if it was hard to guess, during this time of craziness I managed to gain 30 pounds. I am the epitome of an emotional eater and have had a lot of up and downs the last couple of years. But now I am ready to commit to getting healthy – not just skinny – and finally being happy with myself again. I plan to use this blog to hold myself accountable for the usual things: working out on a regular basis and eating a healthy balanced diet. This will in no way be a food blog! My daily eats are repetitive and boring but the once in awhile that I put something creative together I will post it, like my dinner tonight
